The solitary little chapel named Ermita de las Nieves (Chapel of the Snows) on the island of Lanzarote, Spain inspired Michael Ostrzyga in composing this commissioned work for the International New Music Festival “Streams” in 2010. The “Virgen de las Nieves” (Virgin of the Snows) is worshiped on this sleepy hill with spectacular views over the coastal cliffs. Michael Ostrzyga has musically captured his impressions of this magical place and – how could it be otherwise – has tied them in with fragments of Latin texts (Ave Maria, Salve Regina, Ave Maria Caelorum) that echo in the midst of the rushing, whistling wind.
