Chris Artley’s The Lord is My Shepherd is a very singable and well-crafted setting of the Psalm 23 for mixed choir and organ, which makes for an enjoyable challenge for any SATB choir. The careful balance of repetition in the melody with variation in harmonies and structure is characteristic, and the piece has contrast and colour a-plenty. The optional parts for two flutes or violins give an added flavour which set the piece apart from the norm. (Paul West, Director of Music, King’s College, Auckland)
