Hans Koessler was the cousin of Max Reger, the student of Joseph Rheinberger and a friend of Johannes Brahms. Franz Liszt appointed him to his Royal Hungarian Music Academy in Budapest to influence an entire generation of Hungarian composers. So öffne dich, o Herz, der Liebe was published in 1912 as part of Hans Koessler's collection Lieder und Gesänge (Lieder and part songs). This part song for mixed choir a cappella can be sung with German or English lyrics (So Open up, You Heart, to Love).
