An invitation for the Graz youth choir nota bene to perform in Rome was decisive for this choral composition by Martin Stampfl. This work was premiered in the Vatican gardens at the Feast of Corpus Christi in 2013. The free, but strictly text-oriented beginning with all its emotional facets is counterbalanced by a rhythmic, almost exuberant second verse, composed on the theme of the chorale Adoro te devote whose text, like O salutaris hostia, traces back to Thomas Aquinas. The mysterious character that surrounds the offering which "opens the door of heaven" is resumed at the end, expressing the hope of eternal life.
