Born in Switzerland, Eugen Siegfried Rauber, who studied music in Zurich and theology in Munich, worked as a pastor for several years before devoting himself entirely to music. From 1926, after positions in Seckau, Styria and Litomerice, Bohemia, he worked in Bregenz, Austria, as a monastery organist and choir director. This Manger Song which expressively pays homage to the small and yet exceedingly prodigious “dear little Jesus” is characterized by a catchy, lullaby-like style. To sing with the original German lyrics or with the New English lyrics (Manger Song).
