Moerae refers to the Fates in Greek mythology. There, the “Moirai” decide about people’s lives by spinning their “thread of life”, measuring it and cutting it at death. This symbolism is most notably distinguishable in the strings and sustained tones of the two string instruments. With this work, Elias Praxmarer won the renowned Saarlouis Composition Competition for Organ in 2023. The jury particularly emphasized the ‘special sound sensuality’ and its use of echo sounds. In Moerae the performers and audience alike experience the captivating, the surprising, but also the unfamiliar. This composition should have a place especially in the repertoire of those looking for an extraordinary listening and playing experience.
