This Christmas hymn combining Latin and German lyrics is based on a carol from the 16th century. Carl Loewe (1796–1869) from Germany arranged it for two choirs a cappella (SATB each) in alternation. While choir I recites the Latin text, choir II explains the same in German (section by section). In addition to the German lyrics, this edition offers these passages also in English (Antiphonal for the Feast of Christmas).
