This Christmas carol dating back to the 14th century was originally written in Latin. Carl Thiel (1862–1939) set the hymn for mixed voices a cappella using the German lyrics by Valentin Triller (1493–1573). The vivid choral piece can be sung with the German lyrics or the additional English lyrics (Praised be God Enthroned in Heaven).
