Panis Angelicus by César Franck is certainly the most famous setting of the penultimate verse of the hymn Sacris solemniis by Thomas Aquinas. Composed for voice, harp, cello and organ, this aria that Franck later added to his Messe à trois voix op. 12 contrasts with the other three-part sections of this Mass. Gwyn Arch has composed out of this charming hymn in 4/4 meter a sensitive arrangement for choir in 12/8 meter, whereby the gently rocking piano accompaniment is based on the original instrumentation. With Latin and English lyrics.
