Frederic Mattes wrote this mystical, flowing motet based on a Gregorian theme that is initially performed monophonically by the soprano. The next time the already familiar melody begins, other vocal registers gradually intertwine with it. Inspired by the music of Impressionism, the contemplative choral sound is continuously illuminated by confident major sounds. Finding peace again, the theme introduced at the beginning returns one last time in the soprano - and like an echo, somewhat offset in the tenor – to fade away in the collective Amen.
