Following in its extensive structure in the tradition of the great settings of the Mass, the Missa “Lux caelestis” by Franz M. Herzog is marked by its outstandingly vivid musical language. All sections of the Mass can also be performed independently of one another. The closing Agnus Dei with its striding 5/4 meter is at first filled with a solemn atmosphere – effectively accentuated by a large drum which supports the chorus in this part of the Mass. With the brilliant mezzo soprano solo Herzog composes further timbral impulses before he ends the Agnus Dei and with it the entire Mass with a notedly peaceful Dona nobis pacem. Lyrics in Latin only, English preface included!
