Oratio is a powerful work for mixed choir SATB, soloists SATB and orchestra. The musical prayer unfolds from calm, mystical passages and opens out into an intense, rousing finale. It depicts an image of destruction and hope with passages from the Lamentations of Jeremiah. This composition utilises the same instrumentation as of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem and can be performed as a complement.
Oratio was performed for the first time in the famous Theatine Church in Munich in 2020 under the direction of the dedicatee Father Robert Mehlhart. The organ part included in the choral score enables a performance without an orchestra.
The Orchestral parts package includes: Vl.1, Vl.2, Vla, Vc, Db, Bassett Horn1/2 (in F), Bsn 1/2, Tr 1/2 (in Bb), Tbn 1/2, BassTbn, Org, Timp, Perc (Crot, Tub. bells, Cymb)
