The English poet Christina Georgina Rossetti, who battled various severe illnesses during her life, found hope and comfort through religion. This is clearly reflected in the poems she wrote, influenced by her deep religiosity. Just as sensitively as she depicts in Newborn Jesus, whose deeds starting from the helpless child in the manger to being the God of all living creatures and nature, Michael Aschauer's music progresses from subtly muted sounds up to hymnal joy, in order to ultimately return to the peaceful gentleness that reminds us of the newborn babe. An impressive, yet touching new choral composition for the Christmas season!
