The heartfelt plea for blessing and peace sounds in this expansive composition for mixed choir. Above the initially monophonic impulses of the lower registers, the women’s voices appeal to the Lord – “Lord, grant us peace”. According to Psalm 23:4 (Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil) Mathias Rehfeldt’s music also expresses a certain darkness that is broken by hopeful rays of light.
