This is an Old-Italian Lauda (hymn) from Florence, probably from the late 13th century. Lauds were not a part of the Church liturgy, but rather they were sung at celebrations in the streets. Thus they are accordingly more dance-like and spirited. The arrangement for four female voices a cappella by Winnie Brückner combines the old melody with modern sounds. A rather unusual and therefore all the more fascinating piece of the Christmas repertoire.
