Ave maris stella, a double choir a cappella setting, is part of the six-part cycle titled Excelsis dealing in various ways with "on high". The movements are at times reminiscent of waves, ocean breezes and surf, the swift stereophonic changes in the fast middle part form interesting spacial effects. Excelsis was commissioned by the Collegium Vocale Hannover under the direction of Florian Lohmann and premiered together with the concert organist Christoph Bornheimer, in the Nazareth Church on February 3, 2019 (as part of the consecration concerts for the English Organ).
