With his calmly flowing melodic lines and steady harmonic progressions, Elias Praxmarer’s setting of the Agnus Dei lets performers and audience alike pause peacefully. Expressive, dissonant outbursts dissolve time and again into soft, consonant sounds, and in combination with some motifs borrowed from Gregorian chant, a very personal, touching musical language results. The choir and the organ complement each other in an ideal manner, alternating and merging into a homogeneous unity. This composition is a great enrichment for (sacred) concerts.
