This Stabat Mater for eight-part mixed choir a cappella was commissioned by the Vienna Chamber Choir under the direction of Michael Grohotolsky. This concise composition draws solely on the first verses of the poem. Ostrzyga does not adhere illustratively or descriptively to the textual details, but rather disseminates a meditative undertone which seems to create a kind of distance to the content of the text, as if this were the expression of a remote, already faded memory. However, a kind of inevitability as a whole is unfolded, a sort of serenity and inner calm through the acceptance of events. A fascinating, independent interpretation of this text often set into music.
