Like a real shadow, in the six-part choral piece Friedensengel (Angel of Peace) by Alwin M. Schronen the quiet motif of the “twilight shadow” lies like a tapestry of sound in basses 1 and 2 with a tenor voice over the wintery landscape. Over that, one can divine the sound of the bells of a distant tower, sounded by the upper three voices, tenors 1 and 2 and an additional bass voice. But first they tell us how the twilight shadows peacefully envelop everything in a delicate veil. Gradually, it is revealed to the listener that this is a special evening, a very special night. And the Angel of Peace who is frequently cited through all the voices leads all the singers to a four-part conclusion in which this sublime holy night is sung about in a chorale-like manner. This part song was composed for the “PanTyrolean Singing Competition” 2022.
