BAROQUE TREASURES FOR THE VIOLA D’AMORE
With these suites from around 1700 and recorded here for the first time, Marianne Rônez showcases a newly discovered musical treasure for her instrument, the viola d’amore. Taken from the manuscript of an anonymous copyist in the Benedictine Abbey Göttweig in Lower Austria, the dances are characterized by a lively, diversified musical language which pushes the boundaries of what is “charming”. Doubtless written by several different composers, each work possesses its own individual character. Rônez shows this to the best advantage by performing each suite on another historical viola d’amore. Together with Jorge Daniel Valencia (viola da gamba), Michael Freimuth (theorbo) and Ernst Kubitschek (harpsichord) a convincing interpretation of these Baroque jewels is achieved. This is a source of great enrichment not only for aficionados of the viola d’amore!
