"Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted." - Franco Prinsloo gives expression to these hopeful words of Matthew in his sensitive composition. Above the bourdon-like male voices, the female voices soar and take up part of the narrator, accompanied by occasional percussive sounds (finger cymbals, cymbals and tom-tom). Jesus’ words, sung in solo or in a small group, are sensitively accompanied by the rest of the choir. Between the increasingly dense soundscapes, the confident "Gaudete et exultate" ultimately shines forth.
