For several years now, Hermann Goetz, who spent the greater part of his brief period of musical creativity in Switzerland, has been increasingly rediscovered as a composer. Dying at an early age, he was able to create only a slender oeuvre, but one of outstanding quality. In addition to his choral piece Er ist’s (Spring is come), a stroke of genius from his early years, his Salve regina for three voices, published here for the first time, is especially deserving of a firm place in today’s choral repertoire. Easy to sing, the piece impresses by the passion of its expression, its flowing melodies and a euphonic vocal arrangement. A rewarding addition, and not only for mixed choirs with a limited male-voice section.
