In the choral piece Geweihte Nacht (Hollowed Night) Alwin M. Schronen transports us with soulful tones and suspenseful harmonies to the wintery atmosphere in hill and dale; everything seems to stand still and even the colors of nature have disappeared. Nevertheless, the flowing eighth notes keep the chorus moving and maintain the tension through interesting compositional elements such as choral whispering. The realization that precisely in such a desperate situation as a frosty winter’s day creates, the call for a Savior becomes louder and leads us into the radiant, ever-repeated Gloria, which rings out in solemn tones in honor of the new-born Babe. This part song was composed for the “Pan-Tyrolean Singing Competition” 2022.
