On June 13, 1816, at the young age of 19, Franz Schubert wrote in his diary his thoughts on a concert with music by Mozart that he had the pleasure of experiencing on a beautiful summer day in Vienna. For him, Mozart’s music left imprints on the soul that have an unadulterated effect on human existence and give confident hope for a light, bright, beautiful future. Alwin M. Schronen set these words to music on behalf of the Camerata Musica Limburg under the direction of Jan Schumacher, who premiered this work at the 9th German Choral Competition in Weimar in 2014. The contemporary setting of words by the man who composed so many works for men’s choir in his short life and whose music itself leaves a strong imprint on human souls is particularly touching.
