The poet and musician Peter Cornelius, who was highly respected by his contemporaries Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt, enriched choral music with numerous impressive compositions. His admirable handling of the chorus is shown in an exemplary manner in his composition for double choir An den Sturmwind (To the Stormy Wind). Sometimes interwoven, sometimes composed as self-contained groups of sound, both choruses cause colourful effects and ever increasing waves of intensification, whereby the powerful force of the wind becomes immediately perceptible in mighty sound effects
