Anselm Hüttenbrenner, a friend and fellow student of Franz Schubert, left an impressive oeuvre of choral music. Influenced initially by Schubert’s work, he developed an independent musical language of extraordinary quality and of great diversity of style and content. As a composer, pianist, music critic and Artistic Director of the Styrian Musical Society in Graz / Austria, he numbered the most eminent composers of his day among his friends and acquaintances.
