Jan Kopp

Jan Kopp was a young student with Wolfgang Rihm before studying musicology and German language and literature, then music composition – with Helmut Lachenmann and Marco Stroppa. Since 2002 he has given workshops for Neue Musik, and in 2016 he became a university lecturer for composition pedagogy in Stuttgart.
Jan Kopp has repeatedly devoted himself to the question of participatory approaches in Neue Musik, with a special emphasis on compositions for amateur choirs. In the piano booklet Gesten (Gestures), he presents a collection of pieces supplemented by preliminary exercises that make unusual sound and playing techniques of the instrument playable and enjoyable for a broad target audience.
